A few months ago, I decided to run… Not at a set pace, not for a set amount of time, not till I reached a mile, but for the fun of it. For the joy of moving ones body, and the freedom one gets from running. This October I ran my first 5k, and I am now practicing and planning for a 10k. I didn’t use a fancy specialized payed for workout plan, I just did what I enjoyed, and had a blast. Today, in this blog post, I want to talk about a few tips and tricks I used to run, lets run into it!.
Tip 1: Run already!
Ever been aspiring to do something? Ever looked something up, researching, finding new resources and- Uh oh, never did it? Maybe it was because you thought you weren’t capable enough, that you couldn’t do it, that it was useless to try. I am here to tell you your wrong! You are just as capable and as strong as everyone else, and if you desire to run, there is no reason why you should not! because you deserve to be able to move your body freely, and experience the enjoyment of movement.
Tip 2: Look into Running Form
Now, I am not expert by any means, but I have done some research on running form. As a baseline, good running form consists of proper, upright posture, your head upright facing forward while running. When it comes to your feet, you should land on the balls of your feet, hitting the ground straight. Bad running form is not only inefficient, but can pose health risks over time. It is easier (unless you have a muscle unbalance) to run with correct form, and doing so will increase overall endurance and make you much faster. I advise looking into correct running form.
Tip 3: Don’t be afraid to take rest days!
At the beginning of my running journey, and now, I am worried that if I do not run everyday, I will break the running habit, and not run. This viewpoint is not only unrealistic, but also can cause harm. If you wake up tired, sore, it is the best idea to do what your body tells you to do in these scenarios, which is to rest! As I have found out through personal experience, missing a few days of running(or even a week), will not hurt your overall performance, and if you really enjoy running, your habits!
Tip 4: Find a running partner!
To start out, I was only running with myself. But as I got better, I started looking for a way to change up my running routine a bit. The solution? A running partner! Today, I alternate between two family members- My brother, and my dog. Both are excellent running companions, which both challenge my speed and endurance while running.
In the end, I hope these tips help you along your running journey. Leave a comment below with any questions or comments, and I look forward to seeing you in the future! Happy running!
